    How is starch purified?
    Starch is purified by adding 0.05 M NaOH and centrifuged at 10,000× g for 10 min to remove proteins. The supernatant is discarded, and the dark layer of insoluble components on top of the starch layer is scraped off. The starch is then washed with 0.1 M HCl to partially neutralize it and washed with chloroform: methanol (2:1) to remove lipids.
